13, one in which the Buffaloes wasted a 29-0 halftime lead. … Colorado Coach Deion Sanders has had more than two weeks to stew over his team’s double-overtime loss to Stanford on Oct. Starting in place of the injured Tanner Mordecai, Badgers freshman Braedyn Locke performed admirably last weekend in his first career start, helping Wisconsin overcome a 14-point fourth-quarter deficit in a win over Illinois, but Ohio State’s defense has become increasingly salty in recent weeks and is allowing only 4.2 yards per dropback this season (second in the nation). Fickell insisted this week that his Ohio State ties do not concern him instead, he would like to end Wisconsin’s nine-game losing streak to Ohio State. Wisconsin hosts Ohio State, and it must be at least a little awkward for first-year Badgers coach Luke Fickell, who was born in Columbus, Ohio played at Ohio State from 1992 to 1996 was a Buckeyes assistant coach from 2002 to 2016 and even served as Ohio State’s interim coach in 2011 after Jim Tressel’s resignation. Louisville is dealing with injury issues of its own: Running back Jawhar Jordan, who is averaging 7.4 yards per carry and has eight touchdowns, is battling a hamstring injury. Leonard’s status for Saturday’s game is unknown. They would gain just 35 yards the rest of the way and lost by 18. The Blue Devils led Florida State, 20-17, last Saturday when Leonard departed with an ankle injury midway through the third quarter. … Duke, which faces Louisville, clearly is not the same team without quarterback Riley Leonard. But Oregon’s defense is considerably better than USC’s, allowing 10 points or fewer in four of seven games this season. Bryson Barnes, one of two quarterbacks Utah has used with Cameron Rising out for the season, had his best game of the year against the Trojans, completing 14 of 23 passes for 235 yards and three touchdowns while also rushing for 57 yards and a score. The Utes’ offense is beginning to show signs of life, putting up 34 points in the wins over Cal and USC that followed a loss to Oregon State. Saturday’s two most compelling matchups kick off at 3:30 p.m., and both probably will serve as elimination games in conference races. Griffis is atop the depth chart for Saturday’s game after he was benched during a 30-13 loss to Virginia Tech on Oct. Hartman transferred to Notre Dame, and this season Wake Forest has cycled through three quarterbacks (Mitch Griffis, Michael Kern and Santino Marucci) because of injury and ineffectiveness. … Wake Forest has defeated Florida State in each of the past three non-pandemic seasons, but the Demon Deacons had Sam Hartman at quarterback for all three of those games. Jason Bean will be the Jayhawks’ quarterback against the Sooners, and while he doesn’t quite have Daniels’s talent, he still threw four touchdown passes (along with two interceptions) in last season’s game against Oklahoma. But for the second straight season, Kansas will face Oklahoma without quarterback Jalon Daniels, the Big 12 preseason offensive player of the year who has missed the past three games because of a back injury. In last weekend’s close-shave win over Central Florida, the Golden Knights had three plays gain at least 39 yards, and this week’s opponent has an offense with similar capabilities: The Jayhawks have 12 plays that have gained at least 40 yards, tied for 14th nationally. The Sooners have given up at least 5.5 yards per play in each of their past three games after not giving up more than 4.8 over their first four. Oklahoma’s defense is getting a bit leaky entering Saturday’s contest with Kansas.
